When I attended my first residency at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park in Napa, California, as part of the MPS program where I am a grad student, I got to experience an extraordinary amount of great food and wine in Napa for a week. Imagine a SingleThread lunch, 6 Domain Chandon tastings, a Thomas Keller chocolate factory tour and dinner at TK’s new Mexican restaurant in Yountville, all in one day! Woohoo! It was a foodies dream come true!

I realized that one of the things that made the meals and memories so special was the way the wine and food were paired and so I decided to work on a new photo series, Pairing Wine and Food.

My first chapter is Merlot! I enjoy Merlot because it is a delicious red wine full of blackberry and plum flavors yet it is light on tannins so it pairs well with lighter meats, pasta, pizza, and roasted veggies. Wine and food together make an outstanding subject for a food photographer. This work will evolve constantly as I experiment with flavors, lights, and more wines!

Check it out here and stay tuned for more!
